Re: 2007-2008 DoDDS Salary Increases
Date: April 18, 2008
Representatives of FEA met this week with officials from DoDDS and the DoD Wage and Salary Division to review and finalize the data used to compute the retroactive DoDDS salary schedules for School Year 2007-2008.
As a result of that meeting, the following average salary increases have been finalized for DoDDS Educators:
Classroom Teachers -- 3.60 percent
Guidance Counselors -- 3.68 percent
School Psychologists -- 3.54 percent
Speech Pathologists -- 4.23 percent
Please note: these are the overall average increases for the basic pay (steps 1 through 14) in all salary lanes for these positions. The increase for a specific step and lane on each schedule may be slightly higher or lower.
By law, DoDDS basic pay is based on data collected by the DoD Wage and Salary Division from over 230 urban school districts in the U.S. FEA conducts an independent sampling of salary data from those same districts to test the accuracy of the final numbers prior to approving the data from the Wage and Salary Division.
As per the conditions of an earlier Federal court decision won by FEA, DoDDS employees in the coming weeks will receive a retroactive adjustment to their salaries to reflect these pay increases for the current school year. These lump sum payments will be included in one of your upcoming paychecks and are included in calculations for your Thrift Savings Plan and retirement.
The average salary increases this year are well above the increase amounts we were seeing just a few years ago, though slightly lower than last year's increases. It appears the slumping U.S. economy and declines in property values have not yet had a major impact on salaries in the urban districts that are surveyed to determine our pay scales.
