RA Delegate Information Page
"MY KIND OF TOWN, CHICAGO IS……"
The Wrigley Building, the Chicago Cubs, the Field Museum, Grant Park, Navy Pier, the Art Institute of Chicago………..and the list goes on. There are more good reasons to visit Chicago than we could possibly name here. Attend the FEA Annual Membership Meeting and the NEA RA in Chicago in the summer of 2011and take advantage of all that Chicago has to offer. The FEA meetings will be held on June 29 and 30, and the NEA RA will be from July 1 through July 5.The FEA delegation will be housed at the historic Blackstone Renaissance Hotel, directly across from Grant Park, and right on the famous Chicago Loop. This recently restored property has a fascinating and storied history. Take a virtual tour of the hotel, or read about its famous history here.
Delegate Information
FEA is allocated 15 state delegates at the RA. State delegates have their hotel room paid by FEA for up to 8 nights. Further funding may be available from your local associations.
In addition to the state delegates, many FEA local associations choose to send a delegate to represent their local. Talk to your local president about how to become a delegate, and about what support your local association provides for its delegate(s). Even the smallest of local associations can ‘cluster' together with other small locals to send a delegate.
We encourage you to think seriously about running for a delegate position. It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know your FEA colleagues from around the world, and to participate in the very important decision-making processes of both FEA and NEA.
One of our new delegates at the 2009 RA described her experience most eloquently: "After participating in this year's RA, I am even prouder to be a member of FEA and NEA! Although I have been actively involved in FEA throughout all my years of teaching, I feel I now better understand the "big picture" of our profession and the NEA. I also now really appreciate the class act that our own FEA is -- and that means everyone involved! Thanks to everyone for this great experience!'
And from 2010, one delegate shares his thoughts: "I am just amazed at the vitality of the democratic process, from the state causcus to the RA floor. I love seeing that work-a-day Americans actually have a voice somewhere."
Don't be left out!! See for yourself what an empowering experience attending an NEA RA can be.
